The Whites had to allow a number of players to leave Elland Road not only to create space within the squad, but also to keep their wage bill under control while the club continues to deal with financial constraints.
Illan Meslier, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram all departed on free transfers, while Leeds sent Joel Piroe, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Lucas Perri out on loan during the latest transfer window.
Leeds were also keen to offload some of their unwanted players, and the club eventually completed a deal that saw Largie Ramazani move to Burnley on deadline day.
Largie Ramazani makes immediate impact at Burnley
The Belgian winger was omitted from Leeds’ pre-season squad, with Daniel Farke making it clear that there was no route back into his plans after Ramazani returned from his loan spell at Valencia at the end of last season.
Ramazani had waited throughout the summer for Valencia, but the Spanish side never presented an offer that was considered worthwhile, and he eventually secured a move to Burnley on deadline day.
He came off the bench in Burnley’s opening two matches before earning his first start during their trip to Wrexham on Tuesday night.
The winger made an instant impression, setting up Zeki Amadouni for the 26th-minute goal that put Burnley ahead.
The game eventually finished 1-1, but Ramazani offered an early indication of what he could contribute to the Clarets this season.
Ramazani was part of the Leeds squad that secured promotion, and Burnley will be hoping he can bring that valuable experience to their Championship campaign this year.
He never really got a chance under Daniel Farke
Leeds spent a sizeable fee of around £10m to sign Largie Ramazani in the summer of 2024. However, the winger found it difficult to establish himself in Daniel Farke’s starting line-up during their Championship campaign.
The German manager was willing to allow him to leave on loan last summer, as Ramazani was not expected to play a significant role in his plans for the Premier League.
Farke never appeared to place complete confidence in the winger, so it was unsurprising that he had no intention of using him after his return from Valencia this summer.
For Ramazani, moving away from Leeds was arguably the right decision, and he will now look to revive his reputation in the Championship after completing his move to Burnley.
