Jurgen Klopp gave Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach an opportunity as Germany drew with the Netherlands on Thursday.
The former Liverpool boss may already be reconsidering his decision to bring on the Whites’ midfielder as a second-half substitute on 24 September.
Felix Nmecha put the visitors ahead at the Johan Cruyff Arena around the half-hour mark.
Stach entered the game in the 64th minute, replacing Germany’s goalscorer, but the UEFA Nations League occasion appeared to overwhelm him.
The West Yorkshire club’s midfielder featured in his first competitive minutes for the national team since 2022 against the Netherlands.
Klopp may regret turning to the 27-year-old from the bench following an underwhelming performance.
How Anton Stach fared in Germany draw vs Netherlands
Stach hasn’t been at his best for Leeds this season, producing one of his poorest displays in the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace before the international break.
The midfielder carried that disappointing form into the national team, failing to make a significant impact during his 26 minutes against the Netherlands.
According to Sofascore, Stach completed six of his eight passes and registered 11 touches, underlining his limited involvement, which isn’t ideal for a midfielder.
The West Yorkshire club’s player surrendered possession twice and recorded a total progression of -0.1 meters, indicating that he struggled to advance the ball.
Stach also struggled defensively, losing both of his ground duels and two aerial duels, being dribbled past once and committing one foul.
It didn’t help that Cody Gakpo netted a late equaliser in the 92nd minute as the contest finished 1-1.
Why Daniel Farke could make ruthless call at Leeds United
Daniel Farke has depended heavily on Stach since bringing him in from TSG Hoffenheim, but the German coach isn’t hesitant to leave underperforming players out of his starting lineup.
Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto played important roles for the Whites in the Championship but found regular playing time difficult to come by last season.
Joel Piroe wasn’t given an opportunity to prove his worth in the West Yorkshire club’s plans following Premier League promotion.
Farke has little reason to retain Stach in the side if he fails to perform consistently.
Sean Longstaff is waiting for his opportunity, while Ilia Gruev has also made his return from injury.
The Germany international must raise his level or risk losing his position at Elland Road and with the national team.
