Beto joined Fiorentina from Everton in the summer transfer window, and he’s gradually adapting to his new life in Italy.
La Viola signed him as a replacement for Moise Kean, who moved to Como. Since his arrival, Beto has started one match for Fiorentina and also came on as a substitute in their 1-1 draw against Fiorentina.
Mateo Pellegrino has been Paolo Vanoli’s preferred option up front, with the Argentine finding the net regularly. That is also why the Guinea-Bissau international was not given a starting role in the Coppa Italia clash against Pisa.
Player told to lose weight
Former sporting director Pino Vitale has spoken to RTV38 about Fiorentina’s striker situation this week.
He pointed out that it is easy to make quick assessments of the team. Nevertheless, he went on to comment on the former Everton player’s physical condition.
Vitale said – via ViolaNews: “From the next four games, we’ll be able to better understand the team’s real objectives. Beto? I saw him at Everton too. He’s physically too big, a few pounds less wouldn’t hurt him.”
Vitale also suggested that Pellegrino’s regular involvement is not helping the former Udinese striker.
“The ongoing conflict with Pellegrino risks benefiting neither of us.”
Patience needed for striker
Fiorentina have endured a turbulent few weeks. Fabio Grosso was dismissed just three games into his tenure, while Paolo Vanoli returned after departing the club only months earlier.
That instability is unlikely to have helped Beto, meaning patience will be required. In addition, it may have benefited him to remain somewhat removed from the turmoil surrounding the club. That could prove valuable for him in the long term.
The fact that Serie A is already familiar territory for Beto should also work in his favour. It could allow him to rediscover his form after his difficult spell at Everton once he begins receiving regular playing time.
He just needs to avoid getting too distracted by all that wonderful food in Florence.
