Rangers are still basking in the aftermath of their Old Firm derby triumph over Celtic.
The Gers dismantled their fierce rivals with a convincing 3-0 win at Ibrox in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.
Dan Neil found the net twice for Derek McInnes’ side, while striker Kevin Kelsy also opened his Rangers account.
Rangers now have the chance to show that their derby success was no fluke when they travel to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (20 September).
Until then, they can enjoy the bragging rights for at least a few more days in Glasgow.
Former Rangers striker Kevin Kyle was delighted by one particular thing he noticed from the Rangers players last week, although he would have preferred they celebrated in a slightly different manner.
How would Kevin Kyle have celebrated Rangers’ win?
On Wednesday, Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin shared a video showing himself and several of his team-mates enjoying a coffee.
A large number of the squad were together, suggesting the atmosphere within the camp remains extremely positive following their victory over Celtic.
Kyle, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, explained that he enjoyed seeing the players demonstrate how united they are.
“I was scrolling through social media earlier on and I saw a group of the Rangers players were out having a coffee this afternoon together,” Kyle said.
“Someone’s taken a picture of them, sat there thinking that’s what happens with good sides and good camaraderie around teams, you want to spend time with them away from the pitch.”
Former Celtic player Peter Grant pointed out that players on the losing side would probably not want to be spotted together after suffering such a heavy defeat.
Kyle then had Grant in hysterics when he joked: “The coffee’s irrelevant, I’d rather see them sat with a pint of Tennent’s to be honest!”
Rangers need to capitalise on this positive atmosphere
In fairness, both men have a reasonable point regarding the video shared by Raskin.
Naturally, it is encouraging to see the Rangers squad bonding and enjoying one another’s company, as that can be an indication that things are going well on the field.
However, after losing an Old Firm clash, the last thing players would usually want is to be seen out in public behaving as though the defeat does not matter.
Rangers now need to build on this positive momentum and carry it into their return to Celtic Park this weekend.
If they manage to do so, their prospects of securing another victory will improve, and with Celtic currently five points ahead of them in the league, another win would be significant.
Who knows, if Rangers manage to claim another victory, perhaps this time they will celebrate with a Tennent’s.
