I Can’t Take It Anymore!” – Kasper Schmeichel Stuns Fans With Shock Career Announcement After Retirement “I’m Done!”

Kasper Schmeichel has admitted that boredom is taking over his life after being compelled to retire earlier this year.

The goalkeeper sustained a serious shoulder injury in March 2025 and worsened the problem again in February. After consulting with surgeons, he ultimately decided to bring his playing career to an end.

His Celtic contract was approaching its expiration, and his spell in Glasgow may well have been coming to a close.

However, the former Premier League champion evidently believed he still had more to offer, and he now has his sights set on a future in management.

Despite that, retirement has turned out to be extremely dull for the 39-year-old, as he revealed while speaking at the EFC General Assembly in Copenhagen.

When asked about retirement and whether he was bored, he said: “Beyond belief.

I have got three kids. I am a full-time Uber driver, basically. It is a strange transition. It wasn’t one I was ready for. Life throws these things at you, and I am adjusting. I am doing some courses, some TV work and driving the kids around.

“Because I didn’t retire on my own terms, I still have my competitive edge. I would like to manage – to be a football manager or higher. The fire is still burning quite strongly.

“I don’t really enjoy getting the [coaching] badges, but you have got to get them. When I am on the pitch – coaching or helping youngsters coming through – I do get enjoyment out of that.

“My whole life I have been used to an expectation to perform, and I thrived on it. Now from one day to the next, that’s gone. That dopamine hit needs replacing.”

Dad’s sympathy

He was joined by his father Peter, the Manchester United legend, who expressed plenty of understanding for his son.

He said: “It is a difficult period for Kasper now. One day you are somebody. You have an identity. And then the next day you have nothing. There’s nothing there and you can’t replace it with anything.

I retired on my own, but with Kasper it was an injury. You don’t know what the next bit of your life looks like.”

Glittering career

Despite his frustration with retirement, Kasper enjoyed a remarkable playing career over many years.

He began his career at Manchester City and spent considerable time going out on loan before a move to Leicester City transformed his fortunes.

The Danish goalkeeper joined the Foxes from Leeds for just over £1million in the summer of 2011.

He remained at the King Power for 11 years, making 479 appearances for Leicester across their time in the Championship and Premier League.

Kasper played every match during the unforgettable 2015/16 campaign when Leicester secured the Premier League title.

That season, he recorded 15 clean sheets and conceded 36 goals as the Foxes produced one of the biggest surprises in top-flight football history.

His success then gave him the opportunity to feature in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, while he also lifted the FA Cup under Brendan Rodgers.

After leaving Leicester, the veteran goalkeeper moved to Nice and Anderlecht before making his return to the UK with Celtic.

That move saw him link up with Rodgers once again and resulted in another collection of trophies.

Celtic secured two SPFL titles and the Scottish League Cup, while last year Schmeichel remained the first-choice goalkeeper until his shoulder injury.

He officially announced his retirement in May this year, and it appears a career in coaching could be next once he finishes his duties as the family’s full-time driver.
